We recognise that hair loss can be very upsetting and cause a lack of confidence, affecting your overall self-esteem. We also know that finding the right solution can be confusing, sometimes disappointing and at a time when you are most vunerable. With this in mind,
Need a Hair Makeover hair extensions and hair loss Specialist Salon is one of a very few salon in the country specialising in a new type of hair integration systems which we call ⊙hair2hair.
As an innovative alternative to wigs, the mesh or random hair pieces the Hair2Hair systems are ideal for clients searching for a semi-permanent hair loss solution.
Designed for those who would like to achieve a natural looking head of hair but cannot have hair extensions fitted.
The hair2hair systems are designed bespoke to meet all your requirements. A custom-made silk based solution which is hypoallergenic and breathable which requires no harsh mesh structures, no pulling or threading your hair, no thick cornrows or further hair or scalp irritating products.
Why we use silk.
Silk can be woven to appear translucent, it is strong. Silk helps regulates body temperature, and preserves your body heat in the cold. Silk has impressive moisture properties, keeping you dry and comfortable in any climate all year-round. Silk naturally repels mold & mildew and does not irritate the scalp.
So what can we do with our system?
Clients can go with their natural colour or change completely to highlights, balayage or a ombre looks. Achieving a seamless, natural appearance. Natural hair, even when thin and sparse, is not further trumatised by pulling or threading so as to encourage stronger growth and continued scalp treatment if applicable.
When finished, will create the clever illusion of your scalp, light and free moving on your scalp. The system will remain comfortable and feel just the same as your natural hair would, can be washed, curled, straighten or in most casesworn up.
How long does the Hair2Hair System last With?
With adequate care, the human hair can last up to 18 months. There are no limitations when having a system fitted; you can continue to embark on your daily routine, including going to the gym and swimming, without any problems. However, it is always recommended to schedule regular maintenance appointments, just as you would do so with hair extensions or roots touch up, to retighten the hair2hair system, ensuring that results remain seamless.
This system is available for Women and men and may vary in terms of how it is fixed.

Has there ever been more pressure to have a full and luscious head of hair?
In the randomised study of over 2,000 women in the UK, more than one in five said they are suffering from hair loss or hair thinning. When you add in the number of women who have suffered from this in the past, the figure rises to almost 30 per cent.
A further 25 per cent who did not have the problem themselves knew friends or family who did.
The emotional toll can be devastating: many of those the researchers spoke to described how they had begun to withdraw from everyday activities.
As many as 51 per cent say they now shy away from having photos taken, 47 per cent say they avoid social events and 40 per cent said the same for meeting new people. Anxiety and embarrassment were also common responses to developing the condition.
One of the main reasons we lack an effective way to prevent hair loss is that we still understand very little about the molecular mechanisms that underpin human hair growth and loss.
Each hair follicle on our scalp is a miniature organ, which follows its own rhythmic cycle of growth, regression and rest throughout our lifetimes. With age, some of them become sensitive to hormones on the scalp, most notably dihydro testosterone or DHT, which binds to the follicles and miniaturises them until they no longer produce visible hair. However, we know hardly anything about how this miniaturisation process happens, or how to prevent it.
According to Prof Ralf Paus, a dermatologist at the University of Manchester, this is because hair loss is still viewed largely as a cosmetic problem, rather than a disease. Because of this, in the western world, neither industry nor academic funding bodies have been willing to spend substantial sums of money on hair research.
Despite the scale of patient demand, they have been dissuaded by the knowledge that any drug that hits the market is unlikely to be covered by the NHS or insurance companies.
So how could you self help and what does this have to do with your liver.
Liver disease can impact hair growth and trigger the onset of hair loss. Therefore, improper functioning of the liver affects all metabolic systems including digestion and the uptake of fat soluble vitamins. This is primarily because proper digestion and the uptake of vitamins is crucial for hair growth and cycling.
The liver is responsible for the uptake of fat-soluble vitamins, the detoxification of estrogen and the regulation of blood sugar. All of which are important for normal follicle hair cycling. In addition to normal metabolic function the liver performs hundreds of different functions.
Detoxification of the body takes place via a number of body systems. The principle organ of detoxification is the liver. Life is dependent on the function of the liver as the primary defence against any toxins that enter the blood stream.
The liver can be found on the right on the side of the stomach and weighs about 3 pounds. It is divided into two large sections called the right and the left lobes. The liver sits on top off the gall bladder and alongside parts of the pancreas and intestines.
Liver detoxification has been touted as the perfect route to an efficient liver; but is detoxifying the liver treating the cause or the symptom? Detoxifying our organ of detoxification is a contradiction in terms but certain methods can be employed to aid the liver in its normal detoxification process.
A liver that is not detoxifying efficiently could be the result of an iron deficiency or chronic over consumption of alcohol; medication or certain types of hormonal therapy. Liver disease can also be caused by hypothyroidism or adrenal insufficiency
FUNCTIONS OF THE LIVER IN RELATION TO HAIR LOSS
Conversion of ammonia The conversion of ammonia to urea is essential for normal metabolism. Ammonia is taken up from the blood by hepatocytes (liver cells) and converted to urea through the Krebs-Henseleit cycle. Ammonia is the by product of the break down of amino acids; disorders of the ammonia/urea cycle can lead to iron deficiency. Individuals with hyperammonia (high levels of ammonia in the blood) are likely to develop coarse brittle hair. They may also have brittle hair that breaks easily, a condition known as trichorrhexis nodasa.
Maintenance of blood sugar Blood sugar regulation is linked to hair loss and low levels of blood sugar can lead to hair thinning and premature hair fall. Hair follicles require an adequate supply of glucose to remain in anagen (growing phase) and periods of low blood sugar can disturb normal follicle cycling.
Although fatty acids and ketone bodies can be oxidised by the hair follicle, they are poor energetic substitutes for glucose.
Storage of vitamins Fat soluble vitamins travel through the lymphatic system of the small intestines and into blood stream within your body .
The liver stores fat soluble vitamins: A, D,E and K. The bile secreted during digestion is essential for absorbing them so that the body can use them. If bile production is compromised by liver damage, the proper absorption of these vitamins may be affected. Fat soluble vitamins are essential for norma hair follicle cycling.
Detoxification of the blood The liver is responsible for filtering bacteria, old red blood cells and toxins (such as alcohol) from the blood. The liver is also the site of biosynthesis hormones such as estrogen. Estrogen is related to hair growth and hair loss. When estrogen levels are sufficient, women have full, thick hair. But when they drop, such as after a pregnancy or during and after menopause, more hair enters the “resting” phase, where it soon falls out and causes thinning and even balding patches .
THE LIVER DETOXIFICATION PATHWAY The liver removes toxins and metabolic waste by converting them to water soluble compounds that can be excreted in the urine. Substances that are not water soluble are excreted in the bile, the bile is transported into the intestines and excreted in the faeces.
Phase-one detoxification transforms toxins through oxidation, reduction and hydrolysis by utilising a network of around 50 detoxification enzymes collectively known as cytochrome P-450 enzyme system. This transformation process creates free radicals (highly reactive species of oxygen). These free radicals are normally balanced by antioxidants.
Phase I detoxification prepares substances for phase-two detoxification. The liver normally produces a supply of antioxidants to negate any potential damage caused by free radicals. Key nutritional requirements for phase one detoxification include vitamin: A, E and B3. Minerals required include zinc, magnesium; essential fatty acids are also necessary.
Phase II detoxification transforms any toxic agents so they can be excreted in the urine or in the faeces.
If phase-two processing fails to keep up with phase-one free radicals can accumulate, in the form of reactive intermediates. A reactive intermediate is a short-lived, high-energy, highly reactive molecule, when your liver fails to process theses intermediates efficiently they begin to build up. If the liver can not process intermediates; much like a factory line production will slow down considerably
PHASE I INHIBITION • Vitamin deficiency • Mineral deficiency • Oral contraceptive • Anti-histimines • Iron overload
PHASE I OVER STIMULATION • Alcohol • Caffeine • Nicotine • Certain medication
TOXIC OVERLOAD IN THE BODY If the phase I and II detoxification pathways become overloaded, there will be a build up of toxins in the body. Most of these toxins will fat soluble and incorporate themselves into fatty parts of the body.
The brain and the endocrine (hormonal) glands are fatty organs, and are common sites for storage of fat-soluble toxins. This may result in symptoms of brain dysfunction and hormonal imbalances, such as infertility, breast pain, menstrual disturbances, adrenal gland exhaustion and early menopause.
SECRETION OF BILE AND ITS ROLE IN HAIR LOSS
Bile is a green-yellow fluid that is synthesised by the liver; it is critical for the breakdown of fats and absorption of fat soluble vitamins. Once bile synthesis is compromised essential fatty acid and fat soluble vitamin deficiencies can develop.
Essential fatty acids are essential for hair growth.
a lack of vitamin A can cause hypoplasia (dry hair and scalp) or hyperplasia (greasy hair and oily scalp).
research shows that a lack of vitamin D in your body can lead to hair loss. When there isn’t enough vitamin D in your system, new hair growth can be stunted.
a small trial from 2010 found that vitamin E supplements improved hair growth in people with hair loss. It’s thought that the vitamin’s antioxidant properties helped reduce oxidative stress in the scalp.
vitamin K helps regulate calcium deposition in the body; because of this, it helps prevent blood vessel calcification, as seen in pattern hair loss scalp calcification.
NUTRIENT SUPPORT FOR THE LIVER
Vitamin B complex
B vitamins help the body obtain energy from food and is also involved in cholesterol and hormone production.
Selenium is an essential trace element and necessary for a healthy liver. Selenium increases levels of glutathione peroxidase, a powerful antioxidant required for phase II detoxification.
Alcohol consumption can lower content of several trace elements, as iron, zinc, copper, and manganese.
Low doses of beta carotene have an anti-oxidation role in the liver preventing damage and inflammation.
Vitamin C is also important in liver detoxification pathways. It helps protect liver detoxification enzymes, created in phase I and phase II liver detoxification pathways, from oxidative damage.
Antioxidants such as vitamin E reduce the damage caused by free radicals created in phase I. If antioxidants are lacking and toxin exposure is high, toxic chemicals become far more damaging to the liver.
Slightly lower than normal levels of copper has been reported as a potential factor in diseases characterised by disrupted fat metabolism such as non-alcoholic fatty-liver disease.
Zinc deficiency may manifest itself in many ways: liver disease, poor liver regeneration, slow growing hair, or altered immune function.
LIVER FUNCTION TESTS
Liver function tests help determine the health of the liver by measuring levels of liver enzymes, proteins and bilirubin in the blood. Liver function tests can be used to asses acute and chronic liver disfunction.
Alanine transferase (ALT) ALT is an enzyme made by cells of the liver, an ALT test measures the amount of ALT in your blood. ALT is an enzyme that plays a crucial role in metabolism; it aids in the process that turns food into energy. the hair follicle is energetically expensive and requires high amounts of energy in the growing phase.
When higher than normal amounts of ALT is found outside of the liver it can indicate the liver is damaged or inflamed indicating a problem in phase one/two detoxification.
Damage to the liver causes an increase in ALT; the ALT can assess the amount of liver in the blood but it ca not show how much liver damage is present or how severe liver damage can become. Some drugs may affect the levels of ALT levels in your blood. Most low-normal results for ALT indicate a healthy liver. Normal range: 0 – 45 U/L Optimal range: 10 – 30 U/L
Aspartate aminitransferase (AST) AST is present in various tissues of the body. This enzyme helps trigger chemical reactions that the body need to function. Only a small amount of AST is normally found in the blood. Higher than normal amounts is associated with liver injury. Liver specialists report that AST is more likely to be related to liver injury than ALT. Normal range: 0 – 45 U/L Optimal range: 10 – 30 U/L
Albumin Albumin is the most abundant protein in the blood. A proper balance of albumin is needed to reduce leakage of fluid from blood vessels and maintain blood volume. Albumin aids in growth and repair of tissues and appendages such as the hair follicle. An abnormal albumin level indicate liver disfunction. Normal range: 35 to 55 g/L Optimal range: 38 – 40 g/L
Globulin High levels of globulin may indicate infection, inflammatory disease or immune disorders; these disorders can contribute to anaemia of chronic disease. Anaemia of chronic disease is called by iron withholding which disrupts iron metabolism; critical for the function of healthy hair follicles. Normal range: 20 to 39 g/L Optimal range: 24 – 28 g/L
Bilirubin High levels of bilirubin can indicate haemolytic anaemia; a condition where red blood cells are destroyed too quickly. Hair is dependant on an adequate supply of oxygen, the premature destruction of red blood cells can affect hair follicle cycling. Normal range: 1.7 – 20.5 umol/L Optimal range: 1.7 – 20.5 umol/L
5 SIGNS YOUR LIVER IS BEING OVERWORKED (and what to do about it)
You find it difficult to lose weight; the liver is the primary metaboliser of fat in the body. When liver function is below normal, it eventually impacts on your ability to burn fat. In addition to weight gain, it makes losing any extra pounds nearly impossible.
You have trouble digesting fatty foods; If you find you have a fatty or distended stomach after eating fatty foods, you may have a poorly functioning liver. Bile is required to digest and absorb fat, if you are not digesting fats efficiently you are not absorbing adequate amounts of the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E and K- vital for healthy hair, immunity, bones and much more.
You have dry, slow growing hair; the liver is the main metabolic site of the body. It produces enough energy to sustain thousands of necessary functions performed every second by the body’s cells. Your hair follicles are dependant on a constant supply of energy to grow and regenerate.
You get ill often; the liver is responsible for fighting off infections and when the liver is overworked the immune system cannot hands the extra load leaving you more prone to picking up bugs and infections.
You suffer bad PMS; the liver regulates our hormone levels, an overworked liver results in elevated levels of estrogen which can lead to mood swings and irritability. Elevated levels of estrogen leads to estrogen dominance which can lead to high amounts of thyroid binding globulin. Thyroid binding globulin binds thyroid hormones so that they can not be utilised by cells of the body. The hair follicle is dependant on adequate amounts of thyroid hormone to maintain normal growth. WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT The liver has an amazing capacity to regenerate itself. Through diet, nutritional supplementation and exercise most types of liver disfunction can be resolved.
Ditch the caffeine; Caffeine speeds up Phase I detoxification and can increase the burden on an already sluggish liver. Try a Tumeric latte with almond milk instead. Turmeric contains an active ingredient called curcumin that prevents the liver from damage and can help to regenerate new liver cells. Turmeric also helps to stimulate the production of bile, necessary for the breakdown of fats from your food.
Cut back on alcohol; Alcohol increase Phase I detoxification and a pattern of drinking that brings blood alcohol concentration to 0.08 g /dL will affect the livers capacity to regulate blood sugar and metabolise fats. A blood alcohol concentration of 0.08 g/dL will typically occur after 4 alcoholic drinks. Heavy alcohol use is defined by The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration as drinking more than 4 alcholic drinks on 5 or more days in the previous month.
Supplement to support the liver; the liver requires an adequate supply of iron to fully support its detoxification and metabolic processes. Adequate iron storage is essential for intracellular energy output, from which adenosine tri-phosphate (ATP) is produced. ATP administration reduces fat in liver cells. To generate sufficient ATP; a ferritin level over 100 ug/L is essential. Evaluating ferritin can be difficult as it is also an acute phase reactant and can be elevated in chronic and acute inflammatory conditions. Ferritin levels must be assessed in a within a broader blood panel. The phase II liver detoxification pathways is dependant on ATP. Supplementation with vitamins A, D, E and K as well as selenium will support and enhance the liver detoxification pathway.
Pump it up; Regular exercise is key to a healthy liver. Exercise decreases stress on the liver and increases energy levels. Aim for at least 4 hours of exercise, such as brisk walking, weight lifting or swimming per week.
Get tested; Even moderately raised amounts of liver enzymes can indicate fatty liver and liver disease. Fatty liver is linked to insulin resistance; insulin resistance is linked to hair loss. Be warned, even fatty livers can result in normal amounts of liver enzymes in the blood
TYPES OF LIVER DISEASE THAT CAN IMPACT HAIR GROWTH:
A WELL BALANCED DETOXIFICATION CAN SUPPORT HAIR REGROWTH Because the liver is the primary organ that controls detoxification within the body. It plays a vital role in helping achieve optimal health due to its ability to remove toxins from the blood and converting it to non toxic substances that can be eliminated in urine and faeces.
The liver also processes food and is responsible for the uptake of fat soluble vitamins for use within the hair follicle and throughout the body. When in good health, phase I and phase II of the liver detoxification pathway are well balanced and the process works to protect against harmful toxins generated from the body’s own biological activity or from the environment. Liver function is almost always compromised, when the amount of toxins within the liver itself is greater than it can process. This toxic overload can be caused by poor nutrition and by the absence of nutrients needed for the two separate phases of detoxification or as a consequence of illness or disease.

If this is your first encounter in the world of hair extensions, or even a seasoned user or hair extension technician, chances are you will find many terms confusing. Diane Shawe author of ‘Getting Started in the Hair Extensions Business‘ and ‘How Hair Extensions are Sourced, Treated and Graded‘ decided to take a closer look at hair extensions bundles with the view to explaining what had changed.Things like Remy hair, virgin hair, human hair, blended hair, single drawn, or double drawn hair will make real, but it’s important you understand the difference and here’s why..Over the past 18 months I have noticed that hair bundles look very thin at the hair ends but thick at the rim. So whilst the bundle prices look reasonable, the actual amount of hair is now often sold as single drawn. So what does that mean and what is the impact on the purse? There is three processes applied to creating hair extension bundles which a lot of users, technicians and some suppliers know very little about: single drawn, double drawn and super drawn hair extensions. So I am going to explain the difference below. What is Single and Double Drawn HairWhile single drawn offers at most 50% of hair with the same length, double drawn goes far, delivering up to 60 to 70%.Double wefted hair extensions are made from two wefts of hair sewn together so you get twice as much hair as the single oneDepending on personal preference, customers can choose single drawn or double drawn hair to achieve their desired look. What is super double drawn hair? What is the drawning process? Simply put, it is the process in which hair professionals create bundles with the highest amount of hair all at the same-length.If you look at your natural hair, you will notice that all your strands are different length. This is due to the growing phases, at which hair comes out of the follicles at a different time.Super double drawn hair mean? as suppose to a 70% ratio the rate can go up to 85%. This, of course, brings both advantages and disadvantages. As the amount of same-length hairs is considerable, the seeming hair volume also looks profound. On the other hair, the making process of super double drawn hair is more complicated. This results in a higher price tag.Pros– 85% of hair with the same length– Hair bundles look full and natural– The tips of the hair bundle are the same thickness as the top.Cons– Not a purse-friendly productSourcing quality super double drawn hairHair can come from many different sources. In Asia, the most famous type is Indian hair. However, business ethics around hair collection are questionable. Indian women don’t get pay for their hair. The second next famous hair source comes from Cambodia. The coarse and firm hair texture enchants many customers. This hair is suitable for afro clients wanting to use yak straight hair but with more texture.
For more information on different hair types, please read ‘How hair extensions are sourced, treated and Graded’ by Diane Shawe available on Amazon and google. The rising star in this market is Vietnamese hair. With the unique S-shaped, Vietnamese hair offers various hair texture, from silky in the North to coarse in the South.Hair EndsHair ends of double drawn hair are healthy and vibrant. You see little to no split ends. The hair is mostly sourced from the countryside, where women still utilise traditional, chemical-free hair care. These women never really style their hairs using heat or chemically. That’s why their hair is extremely robust.Hair qualityThere are two types of hair quality you should watch out for: virgin hair and Remy hair. Virgin hair is the premium material. It has not been chemically treated or coloured whatsoever.Remy hair means that whilst the hair has been coloured, permed or straightened care has been taken to ensure all the cuticles remain the the same direction which will contribute to reducing hair tangling.Impact on pricesMost people dont realise that hair is primarily sold by the weight along with additional processing costs. Virgin hair can often be the cheapest because they have not had to bleach, colour or perm the hair.Single drawn you can expect to pay upto £40 for 50 gms of 18 -20 inchesDouble drawn you can expect to pay upto or over £70 for 50 gms of 18 -20 inchesSuper double drawn you can expect to pay upto and over £110 for 50 gms of 18 -20 inchesThe prices can also vary between virgin, remy or blended hair. How to take care of super double drawn hair extensions? If you want to preserve the texture of hair extensions, we have some advice for you.– Consider shampoos with a natural formula. Hair extensions do not produce their often oils. You need to give your hair extensions some natural oil. That’s why; the natural oil-based formula is a must when it comes to proper hair care products.– Washing your hair the right way! Hair Extensions needs your gentleness. You should neither rub, pull or wash your hair too harshly or too regularly because this will eventually lead to hair tangling and shedding. We have a care brochure that advises how to look after your hair extensions.– Towel dry or air dry your hair to allow the conditioner to sink in. Don’t blow dry it too often as this will dry it out too much.– Use hair leave in conditioner each day to hydrate the hair.http://academyexpresscourses.com/2018/06/17/10-costly-hair-extensions-mistakes-by-diane-shawe/The bottom lineIf you still have more questions regarding the matter, don’t hesitate to contact us. It’s crucial to understand the different stages that your hair can change in order to promote healthy haircare
Article by Diane Shawe ME.d and Author
Did you know that your hair has a life of its own? But we intervene daily with various chemicals internally and externally applied then we bully the hair with unnaturally high temperatures, creams, sprays, tight braids and cornrows.
On top of that apart from the odd bad hair day, our hair actually goes through a natural cycle of growth consisting of three distinct stages, each of which can change its texture and appearance.
All of your hair is at different Growth Cycle
Hair Growth Cycle
The most notable of these is the growth phase, known as anagen, during which individual hair follicles grow for roughly a six year period.
This is followed by a 10-day-long transitional period known as catagen and a three month resting period, referred to as telogen, during which time the hair will shed.
After this, the hair follicles should remain inactive for roughly three months before the entire process is repeated. However, it’s worth noting that each hair follicle goes through the growth cycle at different times, otherwise your hair would all fall out at the same time.
It’s crucial to understand the three phases of the cycle in order to ensure you’re taking care of your hair appropriately, explains Diane Shawe of Need a Hair Makeover Specialist Salon.
“During the growing stage, the hair needs to be kept in the best condition as it will remain in this state for five to seven years,”
Meanwhile, during the catagen period it’s imperative to ensure that your hair is properly nourished so as to promote blood flow to the scalp, and recommends a hair mask or overnight treatment as a way to do this.
However, despite the distinct stages, it can be difficult to identify when they are occurring because the changes may be very subtle, but the more obvious reasons for changes is ageing.
Taking good care of your hair is important
“Over time, some women and men may notice thinning in their hair which is usually down to hormonal changes, health issues and too much use of external toxins applied through use of various haircare products. For instance some women report thicker, fuller hair during their pregnancy when they are producing more hormones, and then hair loss or thinning after they’ve given birth as the hormone levels return to normal.”
According to research and credible reports the average woman loses 50-100 hairs a day. While this shouldn’t be cause for concern, if evidence of extensive hair loss is something you’re worried about see your doctor or hair loss Specialist.
Many women are often persuaded to opt for a shorter cut when they are older, but you should seek advice on alternates and see if they may be able to suggest the best way to make your hair look fuller.
According to Hair Extensions and Hairloss expert and author Diane Shawe, the appearance of a person’s hair can also act as a “snapshot of their general health and wellbeing,” meaning it can also change outside of its natural cycle for a number of reasons such as dietary changes or health challenges.
Theres more to adding hair
The good thing is that hair can be changed and improved either by hair treatments, hair extensions or supplements, you really don’t have to have what nature gives you!”.
The way your hair transforms over time can also be affected by the amount of heat you expose it to, explains Diane as more and more women turn to high performance ceramic high temperature straighteners and curlers.
When you are a child, hair condition tends to be good as hair is not subjected to as much chemical or heat damage, but sadly this is also changing as advertisers target young teenagers who then pressure their parents into gifting or lending them these tools.
As you get older and start to use colours, chemical products and tools (hair dryers, straighteners, tongs), hair quality can diminish unless properly looked after and so this is why need a hair makeover often recommend having regular deep conditioning mask and steam treatments accompanied by a trim or cuts.
Loyalty is not the same as it once used to be. People move on fast and forget faster and the best dis-loyality tool is the mobile phone because it pumps tempting offers and inform them of alternative and your competitor in seconds!
Admit it, we all use our mobile phone search tools like our life depended on it.
One of the problems many small businesses face is the challenge to stay current, modern and up to date. The temptations to scale up and expand instead of focussing on their core brand and what they stand for is often erased from any growth plans. For example, although I enjoyed the odd facial a this local beauty salon, I never quite figured out what they really stood for because they seem to offer all sorts of bits and bobs in the salon.. I take many felt the same way…
So I am going to focus on salons at the moment because I think they face a growing challenge each day from the swelling mobile provider.
How about your salon? Sometimes it is tempting to scale up by trying to innovate, hire more and invest in the next best computer systems, but if you take your eye off your brand’s core values, your clients will slowly start to move away from you.
That of course, does not mean you are not to leap from your current situation to the next stage (whatever that might be), but as you do, here are some things worth remembering…
If you don’t know what your salon brand stands for neither do your clients (we do hair is not enough) Perhaps you should consider another way that you can grow stronger and that could be by scaling back to basics.
If you don’t know where you are driving, chances of arriving anywhere is pretty slim
The latest computer systems do not mean higher sales, could have the opposite effect
Here are 5 tips to get you started on the right path to scaling back:
Ugly flyers can give you more than you need to get busy on a Tuesday afternoon and ultimately.
Every quarter, it is wise to unplug, review, reevaluate, then set in goals, visions, and targets.
It is wise to craft your salon message than learn how to communicate with your clients. Use Social media it can be cheaper andvery effective.
If you stop promotions and marketing you will cut the lifeline from your sales so don’t.
If you don’t understand your individual team member’s needs and aspirations you will always be having staff walkouts (their needs is not what you think they are) Keeping your staff happy can bring in more sales.
… so the moral of this message is, when you are thinking about scaling up, remember, it’s not always about expansions and latest technological innovations, think holistically, think outside the box and remember sometimes scaling back will give you the boost you need to eventually scale up.
After all, when you give a cat some cream they purr, keeping your customers and enticing them to sell your exceptional services is worth investing some quality thinking time each quarter and then acting upon it.
Happy scaling back and leaping from this to that onto making your clients happy.
Follicular unit transplantation (FUT) is a hair restoration technique, also known as the strip procedure, where a patient’s hair is transplanted in naturally occurring groups of 1 to 4 hairs, called follicular units. Follicular units also contain sebaceous (oil) glands, nerves, a small muscle, and occasional fine vellus hairs. In follicular unit transplantation, these small units allow the surgeon to safely transplant thousands of grafts in a single session, which maximizes the cosmetic impact of the procedure.
Additionally it is recorded that the risk of long term nerve damage, leading to chronic numbness and/or pain in the donor area can be a side effect of the FUT procedure.
Follicular unit extraction (FUE) is a great surgical option for patients who want to restore their hair with minimal discomfort and scarring. FUE is considered by many to be the most refined approach to hair transplantation.
However, with FUE, the follicles are harvested from a much greater area of the donor zone compared to FUT, estimated to be eight times greater than that of traditional strip excision so requires patients to have hairs trimmed in a much larger donor area
FUE provides an alternative to FUT when the scalp is too tight for a strip excision and enables a hair transplant surgeon to harvest finer hair from the nape of the neck to be used at the hairline or for eyebrows.
Follicular unit extraction (FUE) generally has a quicker patient recovery time and significantly lower post-operative discomfort than follicular unit transplantation (FUT).
The survival of follicular units upon extraction (FUE) from the scalp is one of the key variables of successful hair transplantation. If follicular units are transected in the extraction process, there is a greater likelihood that they will not survive the transplant, and the hair transplant will fail. While FUT procedures using strip-harvesting of follicular units typically guarantees a large number of non-transected follicular units. It really depends on the client and the overall visual outcome they want to achieve as to which technique they use and how deep their pockets are.
However there are some new non evasive hair enhancement toupee in the market place which provide instant gratification and is easy on the pocket.

DEFINE YOUR WORD
Think about the year ahead and ask yourself what one word would best represent your dreams and direction for 2019. This is a powerful practice because no matter how busy or scattered we may get at various points in our 365 day journey, we’ll always have our word to hold onto and guide us through.
Here are some examples of words to consider (you can also think of them as themes for the year):
FOCUS, REST, COURAGE,
ABUNDANCE, MY VALUES,
SIMPLIFY, ELEVATE, ORGANISED,
CHARITY, IMPLEMENT. PHEONIX
Take some time and really reflect on which word holds the most meaning to you in the pursuit of your personal goals. Then take a piece of paper, write your word on it and hang it where you can see it every day. You’ll find that more and more, your thoughts, decisions, and actions in the new year will flow in harmony with your word.
CREATE YOUR READING LIST
As entrepreneurs, we know that reading great books for our personal and business development is essential if we really want to take things to a new level each year. However, if you’re like most entrepreneurs, you probably have a mountain of books that you are still intending to read and you know you have to be more selective about exactly which books you’re going to focus on (and implement!) in the year ahead.
So in 2019, instead of getting overwhelmed by it all, get intentional and put together a reading plan.
Here are some questions to help you create your list:
Which particular books will help me the most right now?
What area of my business am I resisting due to lack of knowledge?
Are there any books that I should read again and implement better this time?
FOCUS ON ONE THING
With the beginning of a new year, it’s exciting to launch into everything we want to do all at once to improve our lives and our businesses, but that’s a recipe for getting quite overwhelmed and discouraged before too long.
There is so much value in focusing on one thing at a time. It’s better to work on 12 habits or goals one at a time, month by month, and successfully achieve them all in a year, than it is to work on everything all at once and only be able to to finish 2 or 3 due to lack of focus.
MOVE PAST AN OLD FEAR
One of the things we love most about a new year is the feeling of a fresh start that it brings. Use the momentum of starting fresh to face a fear and do something you were afraid to do in 2018.
SET A 90 DAY MONEY GOAL
It’s so important to set your goals around money and map out your plans for how you’re going to achieve them. Money loves clarity and the more clear you are about how much you want your business to grow and how you’re going to make it happen, the more you can expect to see results!
First, identify how much money you want to make in your business over the next 90 days. Working from the framework of a 90 day goal is particularly effective because it’s not too long or too short when it comes to achieving something amazing, so don’t be afraid to dream a little bit out of your comfort zone.
Next, map out what that looks like in terms of clients and sales. How many clients would you need in order to hit that goal? How many sales per month, per week, per day? By honing in on these numbers, you’ll be able to set your daily, weekly, and monthly goals with clarity and ease. Best of all, you’ll be able to focus on taking action and making it happen. 🙂
People with alopecia want better access to good quality wigs to help with the psychological impacts of the condition
The NHS should fund real hair wigs for people with alopecia and better recognise the psychological impacts, people with the condition have said.
Julie Mees was diagnosed more than two years ago after her mother noticed a bald patch the size of a coin on the back of her head. The hair loss has since worsened, and she will eventually be completely bald.NHS Wales funds wigs for patients with hair loss but they are often made with synthetic hair.
The Welsh Government said health boards were given a list of approved suppliers to choose from for patients who have alopecia, burns or have lost hair because of treatments such as chemotherapy.
They also help patients with fitting and styling. But it is up to each health board how much funding they provide – meaning people in some areas could be offered more to buy a wig than others. Former lecturer Ms Mees, from Barry, said the £50 voucher she was given would only buy a synthetic wig from a specific shop, and she was not able to offset that against the cost of going private. She saved £600 of her own money for a real hair topper – a type of mini wig.
“They give you a voucher to take to a shop for what I call a ‘wiggy wig’… like a fancy dress costume, which look awful and do absolutely nothing for the person’s emotional and psychological needs,” she said. “Your hair is the first thing people see… I’ve always had long hair, it’s part of my identity.
“I’m losing it all and that’s emotionally hard, it’s very difficult.”It’s a case of if you have good finances, you can live life normally.”
Ms Mees added those overwhelmed by the search for good quality wigs could end up paying over the odds, and she had since found a supplier for half the price she originally paid.
Diane Shawe Top Hair Extensions and Hairloss Educator, Consultant and author in two of her recent blogs about hairloss tackled the subject of wigs.
Moira Jones’ 18-year-old son Thomas Barry, from Cardiff, has had alopecia universalis – complete loss of hair from the scalp and body. He started losing his hair when he was 11, and it was gone within three months.
Doctors believe his body is producing an allergic reaction, reacting as though hair is a disease – but no treatment has helped so far.
Ms Jones has paid more than £2,000 for two wigs for her son but neither was suitable. She said she was not helped by the NHS in her search and her son has never been offered counselling.”He was really strong, stronger than everybody else around him,” she added.
Thomas wore two beanie hats – in case one fell off – to hide his scalp during his teenage years, even during sleepovers and in the heat of summer. When he went to Camp America last summer, his hair began to grow back in the sunshine – but fell out on his return to the UK.
While Thomas’ experiences abroad have given him the confidence to go without a hat at university, Ms Jones feels the family should have received more support.
Betsi Cadwaladr, Cwm Taf, Hywel Dda, Abertawe Bro Morgannwg and Aneurin Bevan health boards said they fund two wigs per person annually. They said all suppliers go through a procurement process to ensure quality.
Cardiff and Vale and Powys health boards were also asked to comment. Amy Johnson, from the charity Alopecia UK , said: “For many people with alopecia, wearing a wig is an essential part of managing the psychological impact of losing their hair; those who wear wigs for medical necessity don’t see their wig as an optional luxury.
“The charity hears from individuals who struggle to go to work or school, or even leave the house. There should be provision within the NHS to support individuals with access to suitable wigs.”
