How to Avoid Business Startup Scams by Diane Shawe

Ten tips to prevent being scammed out of your money online when trying to setup a Business

Dont be afraid to start over again

It is now more than ever that anyone intending to set up a business must have built into the Business Startup DNA 7 disciplines.

1. Identify proper business advice or support
2. Take a short but credible Business Entrepreneur Course
3. Prepare a Business Plan and Cashflow Projections.
4. Setup Proper Legal Status, Bank and Merchant Account
5. Identify where you can apply for business startup funds and apply
6. Established Google verified Website & Social Media Links
7. Invest in effective Customer Aquisition online A.I technology

If you want to bypass these 7 disciplines, then you might be setting yourself up for failure and an empty bank account.

I have been in business for over 15 years. It is hard work, it takes resilience, the ability to adapt to change and short, medium and long term goal setting.  (Not forgetting stress, the losses and wins).

I use to help individuals and partners establish their business startup when I worked for the DTI Business Development department back in 1986. The government engaged in a big national campaign to get unemployment down and increase small business startups. We were very busy.

I learnt a lot about the challenges facing business owners and I can confirm that there is no shortcut, no quick rich route to establishing a solid business

Now everytime you switch on your phone, click on Youtube, Facebook, Instagram to name but a few, there is someone telling you how they made 5 or 6 figure income each month by just doing a few clicks and 3 hours a week work!  I suspect the reason most of them do this is because they are selling a replicatable business platform and each person who want to get involved needs to pay them several hundred pounds after you have been exhausted and convienced by a pretend training video which is just a long sales pitch! There I said it!

Even if you wanted to set up a online business, even if its a replicatable business, a amazon, ebay or spotify store I still beilieve that the 7 Business Startup DNA is essential so that you know where your going and not just sat there waiting for someone to come buy from your store.

According to a large Domain Name Registration Company there are over 9 million websites in the UK. Just let that sink in….and you would need to get people to it.

So my next point is how do you keep your hard earn money safe until you are really sure your making the right investment?

Study these ten simple tips to reduce the risk of being scams or fraudulently hoodwinked out of your finances just because your eager to start a business.

1. Be sceptical

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Thoroughly question all:

Online or offline deals, propositions or
Quick money spinning Opportunities
Presented Documents
Request for or photo evidence of money transactions
Information and the source

Anything can be pulled up, designed, prepared and recommended to make something look impressive.

If you want more qualified leads test this online tool for free! https://bit.ly/34f9dNC

2. A Business Plan will help you know your business inside out

Have a thorough understanding of your business so you know:

How it will operates
What manpower or collaborators you will need
The products and services it provides
Your target market and your business SWOT
Your legal and regulatory obligations
Your financial Projections

This will help you realise immediately when something isn’t right when you talk to other businesses. If they cannot answer indept questions about their business and spend a lot of time blagging, don’t part with your money.

3. Find out about  suppliers and how they work

When you understand who you do business with you can spot any business request or transaction that looks wrong for that customer or supplier and may be fraudulent.

Conduct due diligence using a risk-based approach, such as checking the customer or supplier details you have on file, as well as online searches. Check the website links, don’t be drawn in by glossy spotify websites for instance, anyone can set one up in minutes, which is good for the industry, but also very helpful to dishonest people.

http://www.virtualpersonalassistance.com

4. Identify your vulnerability to fraud

Imagine how a fraudster might target you, both emotionally and motivationally. If you are desperate for instance to start making money, will that sway your judgement to be more risky? A business or marketing plan with your own financial projection will help keep you focused, on pointand strategic.

5. Develop a personal development strategy

It is easy to assum that if you have been working for a company for many years, or have just completed your degree, or you have had a hobby for years that setting up a business might be the next logical step especially if you want to change caeers or create work for yourself.

This is all fine, but it might be a good idea to take a credible short course in Business Management, Marketing, Social media, etc to increase your knowledge base and get up to date.

6. Take extra care against cyber attacks and data loss

With increasing threats from cybercrime, protect your mobile phone, tablet and computer. Try not to post your mobile number across the internet. For instance buy a skype number. Also if your working on projects make sure you back up your systems in the cloud in case things get lost or corrupted.

7. Protect your finances

Understand how money leaves your bank account and how hard it is to replace. A few thousand pounds in your bank account might seem like a lot, but when incorrectly invested or spent will have you kicking yourself after te event try to:

place the bulk of your money in a 30 days request account. This may help slow down any implusive purchases.

take time to study and understand the concept of Return on Investment.

Take great care with anything offering continued electronic growth like bitcoin in exvhange for real cash and flashy websites with sophisticated algorhymes.

Invstigate if you can borrow money first and keep your cash for backup and liquidity. There is a saying, ‘Us other peoples money’

Try to use a different debit visa mastercard that you have to load up online from your bank account, this will help protect your own credit and debit card numbers from fraudsters.

Always check your bank statements.

8. Secure and protect your mobile and intellectual property

This includes laptops, computers, smartphones and intellectual property. Factor in home or business insurance to cover these items if they’re compromised, damaged or stolen.

It is also worth copy righting any itellectual property that you have designed or created. This can be for instance putting logos or watermarks, saving and sendind as pdf, taking videos with you working on your project or design etc.

9. Develop an action plan

Consider when you might need professional or legal advice. While prevention is better than cure, it’s important for you to design an action plan.

10. Avoid Duplicating, copying or forwarding anything online that is not your copyright

Cybercrime is real and you could find yourself accidentially committing or participating in a crime or even become a victim. Criminals are aware that word of mouth, recommendations and reviews achieved in your excitment can act as strong validation and are the best way to legitamise their criminal activity.

If you are asked to share, copy or forward something that requires people to commit to any payments, familiarise yourself with the website copyright, privacy and legal status.

You should report and share any links to the police. Call the police cybercrime department if you suspect or have been a victim.

Remember if it sounds or reads to good to be true then the odds are you need to dig deeper.

Coronavirus Lockdown Drives Rise in Online Micro Start-ups Amid Fears For Job Security

It’s hard to be excited when talking about today’s coronavirus pandemic, when millions of people have been infected.

However, various research around the UK like GoDaddy shows the coronavirus pandemic has been a massive boon to entrepreneurship. And this could help our economy both recover and thrive for years to come.

But while jobs have suffered, new micro business startups have skyrocketed.

The government commendably offered a number of startups and etablished busiesses a lifeline at the peak of the crisis, but despite the slowly improving funding picture, we are now starting to see the pent-up effect of the pandemic on UK businesses.

Government support has artificially kept companies afloat and delayed the true impact. but with the second lockdown to non essential businesses we are only now starting to see more severe damage to UK businesses that could puts the survival of an entire bricks and mortar business generation of innovative companies at risk.

Learn how to start a online business properly

Will the Start Up Trends in 2020 continue through 2021?

A survey of 1,000 GoDaddy customers found 15 per cent of new UK entrepreneurs had made the leap due to job loss or furlough

UK workers have been turning to starting their own companies in unprecedented numbers as fears over job security have spurred a new wave of entrepreneurs.

The “State of the Nation” review, compiled by the group GoDaddy, showed there had been a 14 per cent increase in micro-businesses, start-ups with nine or fewer employees. They have experienced a 62 per cent increase in new UK customers and this is only one domain provider.

How many people actually have any desire at all to become the start ups of tomorrow?

There are, on average, 18,100 searches per month in Google UK for “how to start a business” based on data from kwfinder.com

This has surged in recent months with Google Trends predicting that January 2020 will demonstrate the highest number of searches since records began in 2004 for this query in the UK (by quite some way)

So what’s are we witnessing happening?

We are witnessing a few interesting events. “First, we are seeing unemployed workers starting their own businesses. Realising they need to be responsible for their own financial destinies, these micro entrepreneurs are opting out of the traditional workforce to start their own companies. Secondly, we are seeing virtual employees launching their own businesses.”

With 96 per cent of all UK enterprises identified as “micro-businesses” this sector could play a key role supporting an economic recovery.

With regards to the latter trend, Diane says “I think the mindset for many has become ‘if I’m going to ditch the office, why not ditch the boss too?” And many new work-from-home employees have now gained one to three hours per day as their commutes have been eliminated. Some have been using this time to develop their business plans and launch their own online companies.”

The GoDaddy Figures also revealed encouraging levels of confidence and resilience – 85 per cent were confident that their businesses would continue, with third of these expecting their businesses to thrive.

This was supported by 70 per cent who believed their businesses would recover fully within 12 months.

This was despite 38 per cent of the UK’s smallest businesses being forced to close on temporarily, and almost three-quarters having lost revenue (72 per cent), due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Micro-businesses also still planned to keep up business spending, with 29 per cent confirming that they would continue to invest in their ventures and one in 10 planning to invest more in the companies over the next three to five years

“Government initiatives alone are not sufficient to support startups most in need of funding and cashflow in the current economic climate. It’s possibly the growth of micro businesses that will provide the innovation and jobs that will drive the UK’s economic recovery, and they need urgent support.”

Why Hair Extensions Bundles are looking thinner and thinner by Diane Shawe

If this is your first encounter in the world of hair extensions, or even a seasoned user or hair extension technician, chances are you will find many terms confusing. Diane Shawe author of ‘Getting Started in the Hair Extensions Business‘ and ‘How Hair Extensions are Sourced, Treated and Graded decided to take a closer look at hair extensions bundles with the view to explaining what had changed.Things like Remy hair, virgin hair, human hair, blended hair, single drawn, or double drawn hair will make real, but it’s important you understand the difference and here’s why..Over the past 18 months I have noticed that hair bundles look very thin at the hair ends but thick at the rim. So whilst the bundle prices look reasonable, the actual amount of hair is now often sold as single drawn. So what does that mean and what is the impact on the purse? There is three processes applied to creating hair extension bundles which a lot of users, technicians and some suppliers know very little about: single drawn, double drawn and super drawn hair extensions. So I am going to explain the difference below. What is Single and Double Drawn HairWhile single drawn offers at most 50% of hair with the same length, double drawn goes far, delivering up to 60 to 70%.Double wefted hair extensions are made from two wefts of hair sewn together so you get twice as much hair as the single oneDepending on personal preference, customers can choose single drawn or double drawn hair to achieve their desired look. What is super double drawn hair? What is the drawning process? Simply put, it is the process in which hair professionals create bundles with the highest amount of hair all at the same-length.If you look at your natural hair, you will notice that all your strands are different length. This is due to the growing phases, at which hair comes out of the follicles at a different time.Super double drawn hair mean? as suppose to a 70% ratio the rate can go up to 85%. This, of course, brings both advantages and disadvantages. As the amount of same-length hairs is considerable, the seeming hair volume also looks profound. On the other hair, the making process of super double drawn hair is more complicated. This results in a higher price tag.Pros– 85% of hair with the same length– Hair bundles look full and natural– The tips of the hair bundle are the same thickness as the top.Cons– Not a purse-friendly productSourcing quality super double drawn hairHair can come from many different sources. In Asia, the most famous type is Indian hair. However, business ethics around hair collection are questionable. Indian women don’t get pay for their hair. The second next famous hair source comes from Cambodia. The coarse and firm hair texture enchants many customers. This hair is suitable for afro clients wanting to use yak straight hair but with more texture.

For more information on different hair types, please read ‘How hair extensions are sourced, treated and Graded’ by Diane Shawe available on Amazon and google. The rising star in this market is Vietnamese hair. With the unique S-shaped, Vietnamese hair offers various hair texture, from silky in the North to coarse in the South.Hair EndsHair ends of double drawn hair are healthy and vibrant. You see little to no split ends. The hair is mostly sourced from the countryside, where women still utilise traditional, chemical-free hair care. These women never really style their hairs using heat or chemically. That’s why their hair is extremely robust.Hair qualityThere are two types of hair quality you should watch out for: virgin hair and Remy hair. Virgin hair is the premium material. It has not been chemically treated or coloured whatsoever.Remy hair means that whilst the hair has been coloured, permed or straightened care has been taken to ensure all the cuticles remain the the same direction which will contribute to reducing hair tangling.Impact on pricesMost people dont realise that hair is primarily sold by the weight along with additional processing costs. Virgin hair can often be the cheapest because they have not had to bleach, colour or perm the hair.Single drawn you can expect to pay upto £40 for 50 gms of 18 -20 inchesDouble drawn you can expect to pay upto or over £70 for 50 gms of 18 -20 inchesSuper double drawn you can expect to pay upto and over £110 for 50 gms of 18 -20 inchesThe prices can also vary between virgin, remy or blended hair. How to take care of super double drawn hair extensions? If you want to preserve the texture of hair extensions, we have some advice for you.– Consider shampoos with a natural formula. Hair extensions do not produce their often oils. You need to give your hair extensions some natural oil. That’s why; the natural oil-based formula is a must when it comes to proper hair care products.– Washing your hair the right way! Hair Extensions needs your gentleness. You should neither rub, pull or wash your hair too harshly or too regularly because this will eventually lead to hair tangling and shedding. We have a care brochure that advises how to look after your hair extensions.– Towel dry or air dry your hair to allow the conditioner to sink in. Don’t blow dry it too often as this will dry it out too much.– Use hair leave in conditioner each day to hydrate the hair.http://academyexpresscourses.com/2018/06/17/10-costly-hair-extensions-mistakes-by-diane-shawe/The bottom lineIf you still have more questions regarding the matter, don’t hesitate to contact us. 10 Essential Questions For Managing & Controling The Conversation And Advancing The Sale Toward Your Close by Diane Shawe

It can be challenging at the best of times to understand what your prospect wants in order to tailor your product or services to their needs.

The secret is that once a client’s needs are understood and a relationship is established, asking for business becomes an extension of the roles of counselor and problem-solver possibly a familiar and comfortable roles for business entrepreneurs.

With these 10 questions firmly in place, practice them so that asking for business may not be so daunting. Use these questions to bring the focus of the sales conversation back to YOUR goals

Diane Shawe copy of ebook from coffee break series1. “Let Them Know You Are Listening”

Repeat back what your customer has said. Make sure you show youare listening to their EMOTIONS as well as their words and logic.

So what I hear you saying is that you are a little bit _______?

Tell me more about that feeling. OK, what do you think we could do about that?

2. “Get Their Opinion”

Everybody loves to think that their opinion is valued. By getting prospect’s opinion you find out what they are most interested in, and more importantly you will learn what NOT to discuss or emphasize

In your opinion, does this idea fit the goals of your company?

Why or why not?

3. “Narrow It Down”

Sometimes customers will get confused by too many options. If you can narrow down their decision to fewer choices, then they are less likely to put off a buying decision.

If I was a magician and I could just magically give you the perfect package of your choice, which one would it be?

4. “Show Optimism”

Try to get a positive response from your customer. Optimistic suggestions and questions will usually get optimistic responses

I am sure that you won’t mind me downloading this product detail sheet, would you? …

If you knew it would help you to make a better decision about which model is right for you?

5. “Be Negative To Elicit A Positive Response”

Predict a negative outcome in order to give your customers a chance to help you, or give you more information.

If you predict a negative outcome, your customers may even offer up solutions that would not have thought of otherwise.

You’re not interested in our free bonuses, are you?

6. “Super Polite Flattery Favors”

Be polite, and people will respond. Add a little flattery and then don’t be afraid to ask a favour I know your job is super complicated and you have a lot on your plate right now.

Instead of having to deal with selling your boss on this idea,

how about you just let me to the heavy lifting?

7. “Get Them Talking Again”

Keep the conversation going to avoid “uncomfortable silences.” Bring them back around, and keep them talking.

What exactly do you mean by that?

That’s really very, very interesting.

Would you mind telling me more?

8. “Brain stormers”

Get your prospect to think about the rewards and benefits of using or owning your product or service. Get them to think about various possibilities.

Get them to think creatively.

Have you thought about how easy this will be, and how much time this will save you once you get it going?

Just imagine all that extra time you’ll have to focus on what’s important!

Imagine what could you do with that extra time?

Let’s make a quick list

9. “Take Their Temperature”

Find out exactly how they feel – both positive and negative. This will obviously give you more information on which benefits to pitch, and how to close the sale.

Q The way you see it, in what different ways are we BETTER than the competition?

In what ways do you think we are WEAKER?

10. “Focus on identifying and solving their problems”

Find out exactly what they are concerned about which stimulated them to enquire about your services or product further. This will give yyou more information and better help you to tailor your proposal an quotation.

Q How did you see this product or service solving your main concerns

Or

Q what main concerns did you see our services or product solving?

Bargaining vs Negotiating

Although people often think that negotiating is the same as bargaining, it is not.

Negotiating is a process, and bargaining is one stage of that process. There are three other stages of negotiating, and even those are tempered by timing, intuition, and flexibility to the process.

I am not going to list all of the, but I will set out some of the real nuggets you should put in place to establish a firm ground for all considerations.

1. Do your Research

When doing research and preparing for negotiations, there are three important considerations:

  • Collecting facts
  • Knowing priorities
  • Knowing principles

The facts that you collect are all the direct and indirect information that you will need to back you up during negotiations. With access to information today, it is a much simpler task than ever to accumulate all kinds of data and statistics.

For example, if you are preparing to purchase a vehicle or a house, plenty of information is available, such as comparable properties and prices. If you are preparing to negotiate a raise, or are negotiating salary increases at work, then comparable wage statistics, the history of the organisation and its mission and values, previous experiences in the collective bargaining process, and strategic plans are all important concepts to understand.

2. Focus on your priority

Knowing priorities means having a good understanding of what you want from the negotiation. You also need to know what the other party wants. Understanding your principles, both as a negotiator
and as an individual, will help you to form and present a case that is compelling and believable.

Understanding the principles of the other party can also be very helpful to you. A little more research can help you to understand what the organisation’s beliefs are, how they have approached previous negotiations, what terms seem to be more important to them than others, and what terms they could be willing to be flexible with.

3. Identifying Your Walk Away Position (WAP)

When you establish your priorities, make sure you have a clear understanding of your Walk Away Position (WAP). What is the least that you will accept (or the highest price that you are willing to
pay)?

Establish your WAP value in your mind and keep it clearly available so that you do not get caught up in the heat of negotiating, either ending up with something you never wanted, or turning
down a deal that was better than your WAP.

If you are negotiating on someone else’s behalf, make sure that you know their WAP so that you do not make any mistakes in negotiating for them.

4. Identifying Your Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement (BATNA)

In addition to your WAP, you also need a Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement (BATNA) in your plan. Sometimes an issue can be settled before the bargaining phase begins if it meets your
criteria as a BATNA.

For example, if you are planning to purchase a home – which is often a very emotional decision – and the realtor comes to you with an offer that you can live with, and you get the home you want without having to participate in any heavy bargaining or entering into a price war, then you may have reached your BATNA.

Not all negotiations have to be bargained; sometimes, when you negotiate, you can lose the opportunity to get what might have been a BATNA if you had not been after such a bargain.

5. Working Within the Zone of Possible Agreement (ZOPA)

The Zone of Possible Agreement (ZOPA) is an area of overlap where the desired outcomes of both parties reside, and where both parties can live with the outcome. Once you reach a ZOPA, the finer details need to be worked out within the scope of what both parties
have already found is potentially working for them.

For example, if your business forecasting allows for a 2% salary increase each year for the next three years, and similar companies in your industry are offering the same, and the union is asking for 7% over four years, then youmay be within the ZOPA.In general, there are three possible outcomes to a negotiation.

  • Lose-Lose

6. Getting Everyone’s Perspective

Gathering perspective is something that can take place throughout the negotiation process. It begins in the research phase, where the negotiator considers the needs of the members of an organisation
in conjunction with the strategic vision and mission of the negotiation.

This does not mean that everyone will get what they want in an agreement; rather, it means that all points of view are considered. There is no point in entering negotiations and reaching an agreement that ignores a section of stakeholders or breaks the law.

Gathering perspective can be a considerable undertaking, depending on the size and scope of the operation. This is one area where outside resources can be utilised (an outside firm conducting employee satisfaction surveys, for example)Diane Shawe Author available from amazon and google books

Top 7 Reasons for Buying a Hair Extensions and Hairloss Franchise by Diane Shawe

Buying a franchise can be a life-changing experience. Make sure it’s a positive experience by doing your due diligence before signing a franchise agreement. A properly designed and executed franchise system can be an exceptional method of expansion, but franchise systems that are poorly designed or not well managed are to be avoided. Below are the top 7 reasons to consider investing in a hair extensions franchise.

01

An Existing Franchise Is a Turnkey Business

Many entrepreneurs have the skills to run an existing successful business but don’t have expertise in all it takes to get a business up and running, whether that’s obtaining financing or negotiating lease terms.

Buying an existing franchise in a well-designed system can eliminate much of the hard work: choosing a territory, finding a location, negotiating a lease, finding reliable contractors to complete a build-out on time and on budget, establishing vendor relationships, etc. You may also be able to start a business with trained staff already in place.

But, you will still need to do your homework – aside from the transfer fee, your fees and terms may be substantially different than the sellers.

02

Proven System in Place

When you buy a franchise, you buy a system – an entire method of doing business. Franchises have an established system in place that you must follow to distribute the franchisor’s products or services using the franchisor’s trade or service marks. Having a proven system already in place eliminates the guesswork and errors a common business owner would normally face.

In addition to exercising some control over franchising operations and the franchisee’s adherence to brand guidelines, the franchisor provides the franchisee with franchising leadership and support.

03

Corporate Image and Brand Awareness

If you buy into a franchise system that is already established, the corporate image and brand awareness is already recognised. Customers are usually more comfortable purchasing items they are familiar with and working with companies they already know and trust.

In the consumer’s mind, a franchisor’s brand equals the company’s reputation. Great franchisors want to ensure that their customers are satisfied every time they shop at a franchised location and that the franchisee delivers on the franchisor’s brand promise.

04

Higher Likelihood of Success

Buying a franchise is very different from starting a mom-and-pop business. Since there is an already established system in place, there is a higher likelihood of success. If you invest in a proven franchise opportunity and follow the system the franchisor has put in place, you should be on your way to running a successful business.

05

Easier to Obtain Financing

Lenders are usually very comfortable financing the purchase of a franchise because franchises already have a proven track record. Bankers usually look at successful franchise chains as having a lower risk of repayment default and are more likely to loan money based on that premise.

In addition, some franchise systems will provide in-house financing and/or leasing options. Many systems also offer special discounts for veterans, via the VetFran initiative.

06

Training

Most franchise companies offer a training program that is typically held at their corporate offices, plus additional training that occurs at the actual franchise location before the grand opening. The franchisor will train you to run your franchise the same way their other franchised locations are run.

It will ensure that you are running your business efficiently, and will help to eliminate any common mistakes a new business owner usually faces.

07

Ongoing Support

When you buy a franchise, you have the support of the franchisor and the support of knowing you are part of a growing system. You will always be able to pick up the phone and ask questions of the franchisor or even other franchisees.

Established franchisors typically also have field staff who can visit your location to provide coaching and consulting if needed.

Do Hair Extensions, Hairloss and Beauty Franchises work?

It would seem that there is a blind spot towards innovation outside of technology as we forge ahead with directing where the investment opportunities are bedded.

We are living in a new economy—powered by technology, fueled by information, and driven by knowledge. And we are entering the new century with opportunities on our side saddled with huge problems that require new thinking. I believe a percentage of our system must focus on the areas where humans can outclass computers—such as in cognitive skills, interpersonal skills, fine motor skills, and perform tasks machine might currently find unprofitable.

More and more top fortune company’s are giving way to automation primarily to drive costs down, improve reliability, security and accuracy.

I believes that we need to make sure that the type of education and economical opportunity supplied can keep a population in work or self-employment, performing meaningful tasks relevant to todays and tomorrow needs.
