Why Black men will be Disproportionately Devastated by Industries drive towards Automation

 Black men and disproportionate employment

Black male graduates in London and throughout the UK are nearly twice as likely to be unemployed as their white counterparts, figures suggest. In 2016 there was an unemployment rate of 18% for black male graduates aged 16 to 24 in the capital.

According to the data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), the rate for their white counterparts was 10%. A government spokesperson said the employment rate for ethnic minorities was “at a record high”. So if the graduates, the brightest and best are having such a hard time what about the lower skilled or unqualified black men?

But for now lets focus on London. More than 83,000 young men in London are from black and mixed black ethnic groups, making up about one in five of young men in the capital.

Research by the National Audit Office (NAO) has found that along with Pakistani and Bangladeshi women, black men consistently have the lowest employment rates in the UK.

BBC London contacted 50 of London 500 top graduate employers last year across the banking, accounting, medical, legal and retail sectors. Eleven were able to provide data relating to their employment of black men specifically. Those 11 organisations recruited 1,803 graduates in 2016. Of those, 30 were black men.

The NHS leadership academy, for trainee managers, was among those which did not recruit any among its intake of 112 graduates.

Larry Elliott Economics Editor for the Guardian headlined on 4th April 2018 that Workers at risk as robots set to replace 66m jobs, warns OECD he goes on to write:

The west’s leading economic thinktank has warned its members that they are failing to prepare workers for an automation revolution that will leave 66 million people at risk of being replaced by machines in the coming years.

A new report by the Paris-based Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development found that the most vulnerable – one in seven workers on average across the 32 countries studied – were less likely to be receiving help than those whose jobs were more secure.

The OECD said 14% of jobs in developed countries were highly automatable, while a further 32% of jobs were likely to experience significant changes to the way they were carried out.

Low-skilled people and youth were among those most at risk, according to the report, with the jobs at highest risk tending to be in low-skill sectors such as food preparation, cleaning and labouring. Workers in fully automatable jobs were more than three times less likely to have participated in on-the-job training, over a 12-month period, than workers in non-automatable jobs. Those most at risk were also less likely to participate in formal education or distance learning.

In September 2017 Mr Lammy a Tottenham MP reviewed the BAME people in the criminal justice system and found that in the UK black people who make up just 3% of the UK population make up 12% of the people in prison at a cost to the tax payer of £309m each year.

Whilst the report highlighted failings on the part of police forces, courts and prisons, it was identified that other issues like one parenthood, school exclusions, low income and high unemployment disproportionately affect some ethnic minority groups and have been linked to higher levels of criminality.

Is Adult Education for Graduates BrokenDiane Shawe author of ‘Is Adult Education Broken?’ states that “the traditional belief that we must prepare ourselves to be ‘employable’ is under threat for all groups, but has always inexplicably affected the BAME groups. The counter argument encourages us to ‘gear up’ for earning our own money, rather than seeing income as someone else’s responsibility”.

It is clear that at this moment most educational systems are not keeping pace with changing technology and the ever-evolving world of work.

Here’s the Main Reasons Adult Education is Broken and I’ll Prove It To You

Is Adult Education Broken?

Is Adult Education Broken by Diane Shawe Author (4)

Adult education has become undervalued in an overpriced educational infrastructure.

The people who need the most help are already systematically ripped off by greedy loan companies, NHS parking, having to pay charges for drawing out their own money from private ATM machines in poorer boroughs, pre-paid electric meter’s to name but a few.

The more you seem to need help the more you seem to have to pay.

Off course, the arguments are always about risk, but to compound on top of their needs, a premium, just to make sure the risk is compensated for is questionable indeed. But another kind of ripping off is taking place. ‘Free online education’ you may ask ‘why is this a rip-off people”?
I will answer this from my perspective initially and then make further arguments as to why we should be very concerned about this un-policed, unchallenged butchery of the values originally infused into our adult educational system.

Is Adult Education Broken by Diane Shawe Author (2)So if you all but think Adult Education is Broken and all but given up, this book spills the beans on what has gone wrong, what questions need to be addressed and if certain issues are tackled by Government, then there’s Hope,

As Isaac Asimov—a master of science fiction literature—once said:

“No sensible decision can be made any longer without taking into
account not only the world as it is but the world as it will be.”

So the big Question is – What has happened?

  • Why have these large institutions priced education out of some fundamental principles?
  • Why on the other spectrum are all these free courses flooded the market?
  • How can we make the new economic age enhance, rather than diminish, our quality of learning?
  • How can we make this amazing innovation advance the prospects of all people especially those with or without experience and not just for the youth?

It is clear that at this moment most educational systems are not keeping pace with changing technology and the ever-evolving world of work.

“If unemployment formed a country it would be the 5th largest in the world”

                                                  Isaac Asimov

Not enough people are thinking strategically enough in this area.  Fundamentally, we need to change what people learn, how people learn, when people learn, and even why people learn.

We must get beyond the traditional model of students sitting passively in classrooms, following instructions and memorising material that they are tested and scored on which sometimes turn out to be of little use in an every changing economy.

“It is not the strongest or the most intelligent who will survive but those
who can best manage change.”                       Darwin

Throughout the ages, every human society has experienced challenges adjusting to population growth, maintaining structural order and creating channels for future generations. How well a society prepares the next generation for survival is imperative for the society as a whole but we have stalled in this process.

There seems to be a range of systemic failures such as

: failure to find a formula to develop teachers convergent and divergent Is Adult Education Broken by Diane Shawe Author (3)facilitating skills
: failure to consider cultural relevance
: failure to develop enterprising and entrepreneurial skills
: failure to prepare about taking personal responsibility
: failure to provide adequate technology and supporting curriculum
: failure to encourage international engagement
: failure to manage growth of academic misconduct

Diane Shawe Author states that “the traditional belief that we must prepare ourselves to be ‘employable’ is under threat. The counter argument encourages us to ‘gear up’ for earning our own money, rather than seeing income as someone else’s responsibility”

With the population dramatically aging and low-level jobs increasingly swallowed up by machinery, entrepreneurship will be a necessity for many, rather than a lifestyle choice for some.

SMEs are of course already leading this charge but in order to gear up for the future we need to start off by asking a serious question, defining criteria’s and examining trends, impact these trends will have and plan a way to jointly prepare current and future generations to be both employable and entrepreneurial.

We are living in a new economy—powered by technology, fueled by information, and driven by knowledge. And we are entering the new century with an opportunity on our side but huge problems that require new thinking.

I Just Learned This Little-Known Twitter Strategy to Sell to my Competitors’ Customers

This twitter strategy is so good it will leave you wishing you had been doing it sooner

By Nominated Guest Blogger John White @juanblanco

I found this article and I just had to share it on my blog because it was so simple

Donald Trump has accidentally made twitter hip with his regular out of context rants so if you use it right, Twitter can be a massive lead generation tool for your business. The problem is, many don’t take the time to learn how to use Twitter effectively.

They open an account, put out some tweets, and then wonder why there aren’t thousands of people flooding to their account to follow them and buy their product or service.

The truth is that it takes time and effort to learn how to use Twitter for lead generation and sales. Getting followers is no easy task, and converting followers into customers is even more challenging.

Luckily, I’m going to share with you a top strategy that I have used to help my clients turn their Twitter account into a highly effective lead generation tool.

Find out who your competitors’ customers are

It’s not enough to just get followers on Twitter. To get sales, you need to have followers who are interested in what your company is offering.

There may be no better tool to use to directly engage your competitors’ customers than Twitter. Just go to each of your competitors’ Twitter pages and click on their followers. Doing so will reveal every account that is following your competitors.

What a leads list!

While not every account that is following your competitors is doing business with them, they all have indicated an interest. That means they are likely to be interested in knowing what your company has to offer as well.

Follow your competitors’ followers

Once you’re on their page and looking through their list of followers, begin to follow the accounts that look like they would be interested in your company.

Also look to see who is engaging with your competitors’ tweets by liking and retweeting them. Consider following these accounts as well. Engaging with your competitors’ tweets shows that they are active accounts with a strong interest in the subject matter that you are likely to be tweeting about as well.

When you follow someone on Twitter, they receive a notification that you have followed them. The reaction of most people is to then go to your account to see if you are worth following back.

Following your competitors’ followers will have a significant portion of them heading to your profile.

So make sure your profile is looking good and is ready to impress. Pin a tweet to your profile with your best offer and include a link to a landing page where people can make a purchase or sign up.

To pin a tweet, create a tweet with your offer, call to action, and link. Then, once the tweet is live, click on the drop-down menu in the top right corner of the tweet and choose “pin to your profile page.” Doing this will place the tweet at the top of your profile page, so it is the first tweet people see when visiting your page.

After following, give people 3-5 days to follow you back. If they don’t follow back, either their account is not active, or they’re not interested in you. Either way, go ahead and un-follow the people that don’t follow you back.

This will free up space in your network for you to be able to continue to follow your prospects on Twitter.

If you pursue this strategy, over time you will grow a highly targeted following full of potential customers.

Why Does Moisture Matter to Hair Extensions

Why does Moisture matters to Hair Extensions?

Author Diane Shawe extracted from ‘How Hair Extensions are Sourced, Treated and Graded’

Simply put, moisture is the single most important factor in determining the way your client’s hair looks! When moisture drops below 10-10.2% (depending on the type of hair and the level of environmental humidity), hair will look like brittle straw as opposed to supple green grass.

The critical moisture level is the difference between a freshly baked bread and one left on the counter for a few days. In the example of
the straw or the stale slice of bread, if we apply
the slightest pressure, they will break. The same
pressure on the fresh slice of bread or the green
grass shows us how malleable these materials could be. Likewise, any pressure put on dry human hair, as opposed to well-moisturised hair, will result in breakage.

Moisture = Strength

Here are some details I found to illustrate my point. An average strength properties reading for Indian non-cuticle hair with a diameter of 0.055mm would be 0.22 gn/m². An average result for the same type of hair from the same bundles, but completely soaked with tap water would be 0.66 gn/m². A normal value for such hair would be around 0.32 gn/m². (gn/m² stands for Giganewtons per square meter, which is a measure of pressure.

For human hair, these figures explain the fibre͛s strength – the amount of pressure it can
withstand before breaking.)

The important lesson here is that moisture – any type of moisture – will increase the strength
of the hair by up to 300%! Every test conducted has shown that plain water is as effective as any conditioner or leave-in moisturiser.

For example, try wearing your jeans after washing them, while they are still soaking wet and feel the roughness of the fabric. This has to do with the swelling and increased strength of the fabric when wet. Until the water evaporates, the denim will be significantly stronger.

The same goes for hair. All the stories written by marketing departments about conditioners that add strength and elasticity to hair are about as good as the stories your parents used to tell you to calm you before going to sleep – It’s all placebo effect.

Theres more to adding hair

The role of conditioners

Conditioner will add strength, but only temporarily, just as water will. Now we are getting to one of the major trade-offs between conditioner and water.

Water will evaporate much faster, but will not leave deposits that will weigh down your client’s hair. Conditioner will evaporate much more slowly and contribute to the strength of the hair for a longer time, but will leave deposits that may weigh down the hair.

In hot desert climates it is extremely important to maintain the moisture of the hair, especially if the client spends any time in the sun. It is just as important to maintain the moisture in centrally heated or air conditioned environments as they subject the hair to continued dehydration. It is also worth noting that just a few minutes of ultra-violet exposure on treated hair is enough to make a significant impact. In these conditions, a very light leave- in conditioner is highly recommended.

If the client is not inclined to buy more products, give or sell him a very small mist bottle (2 oz. will be sufficient) filled with water and have him mist his hair a few times a day.

A lot of consumers have expressed concern about inconsistency, However, as an educational service… and perhaps a warning… I͛d like to offer a brief primer on the advantages and disadvantages of each type of hair and explain the cost differences and the reasons for them. I’ll also answer the question, as long as it feels good, looks good and doesn’t tangle, why I care where the hair originated? When I’m done, you too will appreciate the behind the scenes negotiating and control that is provided invisibly day in and day out by your current importer.

The first question all new customers ask is where did the hair come from?

Do You Eat Any Of These Top 10 Anti-Aging Superfoods That Help Keeps You Forever Young?

I came across these superfoods on a home remedy info page the other day amnd was surprised to say that I eat at least three quarters of there recommendations but not as often as I should.

Aging is a natural process but, of course, we all wish we could look young and stay healthy forever. No one can offer us the Fountain of Youth (not yet), but there are some tips that can make a huge difference in slowing down the body’s aging process and leave others wondering how you stay so young.

Medicines keep us alive longer than ever before, but they have side effects. Instead of relying on medicines and beauty products, focus on your food choices. The foods you eat greatly impact how your body responds as you get older.

It is well known that poor nutrition contributes to disease and premature aging, whereas a healthy diet provides your body with essential nutrients to keep your organs in good working condition. Plus, healthy foods will help your body combat the typical problems brought on by aging.

Many foods can help defy the clock and keep you looking and feeling young for years.

Here are the top 10 anti-aging superfoods.

1. Walnuts

Walnuts are considered an amazing anti-aging food. They are high in omega-3 fatty acids. In fact, one-fourth cup of walnuts provides approximately 91 percent of the daily recommended intake of omega-3 fatty acids. These essential fatty acids help regulate your cholesterol level and reduce the risk of heart disease. They also will help your brain function properly for years to come. Plus, walnuts contain magnesium, iron, zinc, potassium, selenium, copper and fiber that are required to keep your body healthy and energetic as you age. Last but not least, they will help you keep your waistline trim as you get older.Walnuts can be eaten as a snack or added to salads, yogurt and stir-fry recipes. Be sure not to have more than a handful of unsalted walnuts at a time to keep calories in check.

2. Blueberry

Antioxidants can slow down the aging process and blueberries are the best antioxidant-rich food available. Antioxidants stop free radicals from forming in your body, which can cause serious diseases and speed up the aging process. Plus, blueberries have powerful anti-inflammatory properties that help keep all your body’s cells from aging and keep your skin looking young.Blueberries can also reduce the risk of arthritis, lower cholesterol, improve eyesight and slow down cognitive deterioration that comes with Alzheimer’s disease. You can have them with your cereal, eat them with ice cream or yogurt, or have them as a fruit snack.

3. Spinach

Evidence indicates that spinach can help you stay in top shape as you age. Spinach is a great source of lutein and zeaxanthin, which are antioxidants that greatly help reduce age-related mental decline, eye and vision conditions, and bone degeneration.

Not only that, spinach also has a high amount of vitamins C and E as well as beta-carotene, all of which help protect the skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays so your skin remains vibrant and healthy even as you age. In addition, this green vegetable can help prevent cardiovascular disease, lower high blood pressure and lower cholesterol. It can even reduce the risk of cancer in the digestive tract.

Just one cup of fresh spinach daily can keep your body healthy and your skin young for years. You can eat spinach in salad, soup or juice form.

4. Green Tea

Green tea is used in a host of beauty products due to its powerful antioxidant properties, which help protect the skin from harmful free radicals that cause wrinkling, brown spots and skin aging. These antioxidants can slow down premature aging and help keep your skin supple and looking young. This healthy beverage also helps protect against skin cancer.

Green tea has also been shown to help prevent heart disease and high cholesterol, prevent and reduce the risk of rheumatoid arthritis, and help you preserve bone density. If you wish to look younger than your age, one or two cups of green tea daily can help a lot. You can also try green tea supplements.

5. Salmon

Salmon is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids and hence can be used to delay the aging process. Omega-3 fatty acids help prevent cholesterol buildup in the arteries, protect against abnormal heart rhythms and keep you mentally sharp as you age.

The anti-inflammatory properties and high protein content of salmon also help keep your skin free from blemishes, acne breakouts and various signs of aging like wrinkles, brown spots, crow’s feet and fine lines. Plus, salmon contains a chemical called astaxanthin, which gives your skin a youthful appearance. In addition, this cold water fish is rich in anti-aging nutrients like vitamins D and E. Try to have three or four servings of salmon per week. You can opt for grilled, smoked or baked salmon.

6. Broccoli

Broccoli and other cruciferous vegetables can significantly slow down the aging process. Broccoli is high in antioxidants and contains an impressive number of anti-aging nutrients. This superfood contains the compounds sulforaphane and indoles, which help protect against oxidative stress, cell damage and even cancer.

The B-vitamin folate in broccoli will help your brain work properly for years, while the vitamin K1 increases bone density and reduces fracture risk. Plus, it is rich in artery-clearing fiber, bone-strengthening calcium and heart-healthy potassium.

One serving of broccoli three or four times per week can make a difference in your health and how you age. Try to always eat fresh broccoli rather than frozen broccoli.

7. Olive Oil

Several studies have concluded that olive oil can make you look younger than your age. Olive oil is high in antioxidants, including vitamins A and E. While vitamin A protects the skin from free radicals that are known to accelerate the aging process, vitamin E aids in skin repair and renewal.

Higher intake of olive oil means less fine lines, fewer wrinkles, a more even skin tone and smooth texture. The monounsaturated fatty acids in olive oil can also improve heart health, lower cholesterol levels, and control blood sugar.

To enjoy the anti-aging benefits of olive oil, use it as your regular cooking oil. Also, this healthy oil can be used as bath oil and as a topical moisturizer.

8. Dark Chocolate

Dark chocolate is loaded with antioxidants that help protect your body from free radicals, which cause oxidative damage to cells. Free radicals can speed up the aging process and also cause different types of cancer.

The cocoa present in dark chocolate has flavanols that encourage blood vessels to relax, keeping them youthful, supple and pliable. This in turn lowers risk of high blood pressure, Type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and dementia. Eat dark chocolate in moderation, as it is high in calories and saturated fat that can cause weight gain. Stick to a small piece of dark chocolate with higher cocoa percentage.

9. Garlic

Garlic has many health benefits and has been used for ages to slow down the aging process. It has allicin that works as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent. Allicin helps keep the body free from harmful free radicals. Garlic is also useful for decreasing blood pressure and cholesterol, removing heavy metals from the body, preventing cancer and acting as an antifungal and antiviral agent.

Plus, it contains vitamins A, B and C, selenium, iodine, potassium, iron, calcium, zinc and magnesium that are essential to keep your body in good health. To enjoy the anti-aging as well as other health benefits of garlic, try to eat two raw garlic cloves daily. Also, use garlic in your cooking.

10. Tomatoes

A tomato a day can reverse the effects of aging. Tomato’s anti-aging benefits are credited to lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that protects the skin from harmful free radicals. Lycopene acts as a natural sun block, preventing the UV damage that causes sun spots, dryness and wrinkles. Also, a tomato-rich diet boosts the production of collagen, the protein that keeps skin supple. Tomatoes also have the ability to cut cholesterol, prevent heart disease as well as ward off a range of cancers.

For optimum health and good looking skin, try to drink one glass of tomato juice daily. You can also have tomatoes in your salad or soup. Include these foods in your diet plan to boost your health and reduce the impacts of aging. Along with these foods, you need to follow a healthy lifestyle for better health and looks.

Why invest in a hair Extensions and Hair loss franchise

Why buying a Franchise business makes smarter business sense

Hoping to be your own boss? OneRick Grossman’s book Franchise Bible and fra

nchise expert outlines the plus side of buying a franchise

The following excerpt is from Rick Grossman’s book Franchise Bible. Buy it now from Amazon | Barnes & Noble | iTunes | IndieBound
Very few people have the natural ability or expertise to be efficient at all aspects of running a successful business. That is where the franchisor’s experience comes into play. Franchise organisations offer a structure for launching, operating and growing a business. Indeed, the successful franchisor will deliver the entire framework around which the business is built. Franchisors usually create comprehensive operations manuals and training programs for their franchise owners that cover marketing, operations, accounting, technology and other areas that are specific to the particular business model. These efficiencies are designed to enable franchise owners to earn more and spend less time and effort than otherwise would be required to open and operate a similar business on their own.

Collaboration

The franchise organisation model offers the franchisee the ability to grow under a common brand and share in the benefits of a larger group of business owners. Though each business is independently owned and managed, all franchisees share in the collaborative benefits of the organisation through the support and oversight of the franchisor including:

  • Group advertising resources not typically available to small, independent business owners
  • Owning your own business and making day-to-day decisions yourself, guided by the experience of a successful business enterprise
  • The ability to sell products and services to markets that company-owned outlets have difficulty serving because of higher operational costs and lower motivation of employees in company-owned outlets
  • The benefit of recognized and proven service marks, trademarks, proprietary information, patents and/or designs
  • Training from successful business operators
  • A lower risk of failure and/or loss of investments than if you were to start your own business from scratch
  • Being a part of a uniform operation, which means all franchises will share the same interior and exterior physical appearance, the same product, the same service and product quality and overall customer brand awareness
  • Operational support from the franchisor, both before and after launching your business venture, in areas such as financing, accounting, employee training and operational procedures
  • An opportunity to enhance your management abilities within an established business model that you couldn’t experience in most employment situations

From the franchisor’s perspective, this collaboration:

  • Offers the franchisor a method of rapid expansion
  • Spreads the brand messaging and awareness over a large network of franchise owners
  • Taps in to the franchise owner community’s “pride of ownership”
  • Allows the franchise owner community to grow due to a duplicable system and support
  • Features increased buying power for goods and services due to higher volume with suppliers
  • Enables new products and services to be developed in the field with more testing and input
  • Provides a steady cash flow to the franchisor to facilitate overall growth of the system
  • Can fund the brand recognition effort to grow nationally and globally

Franchising offers a better chance to succeed

The U.S. Department of Commerce and other authors of statistics concerning franchising have shown that the revenue from franchise establishments accounts for over one-third of all U.S. retail sales.

Government research over the years has indicated that the success rate for franchise-owned endeavors is significantly better than the rate for non-franchise-owned small businesses. In short, the good news is that franchising makes up a significant part of the national economy and presents a statistically better chance for success than other business options.

The freedom factor

Most individuals seek three common elements when choosing a franchised business:

  • Flexibility
  • Money
  • Status

These three elements are important for a variety of reasons and seem to be common denominators when people seek a new business as a career path. Flexibility has always been a hot button for entrepreneurs who exchange the stability of a “real job” for the freedom that comes with being their own boss. Money, or income, is always a factor but surprisingly is seldom the most important. We know many people who have left huge salaries behind because they were miserable, to pursue the American Dream and launch a business. Status is an all-encompassing category that includes not only titles and position, but more important, the feeling of purpose one has and being a part of something significant.

Owning a franchise can provide you with all three of these elements if you operate the business successfully and manage your time and resources properly.

Happy franchise owners make more money

It’s been said that if you love what you do, you can’t help but succeed. There’s a lot of truth to this statement. If you can align yourself with a franchise that really fits, you’ll be much happier, which in turn results in higher productivity. This is a simple philosophy that’s often overlooked. Some franchise organisations have suffered because they lost sight of this reality during the fast growth stages.

The explosive growth that many franchises experience is referred to as “hockey stick” growth due to the way it’s charted on a line graph. Sometimes companies are so successful and grow so fast that they seemingly forget about the little things that made them successful in the first place. In this case, their initial success can lead to their ultimate failure. A franchise organisation that forgets that their franchise-owner community is in fact their “customer” base (each of whom should be treated with respect and with an eye towards making them satisfied) usually comes down like a house of cards.

Think about this for just a moment: If the franchisor understands that its franchisees are the heart and soul of their success and understand a very basic premise — if the franchisees are happy then they’ll generate more revenue — then it will build on that reputation and financial model. But if the franchisor sees its franchisees merely as cogs in a wheel that deserve no respect, the system ultimately fails — and not because the end product is poor, but because the sales force that’s presenting the product to the general public is dissatisfied. We see this all too often.
